I haven't noticed the sight yet, because I've been mounting it upside down
in the gimbal mount (because the setup is easier to carry then).
Now that you have drawn my attention to the sight, I took it outside to have
a look on how it works. Supah cool. Thanks John. It will make it a lot
easier to get the birds in frame.

I can't help thinking of the attention I'd attract shooting at an airport
using the sighs and gimbal mount with the tripod legs widely spread.
Guantanamo next, I guess.

Isn't it a great lens? I got incredibly lucky when I got mine. Some NorCal

list members may remember me using mine at our last gathering, when we were
out shooting the Blue Angels from San Francisco.

My favorite part of the 500mm 4.5 is the sights on the top, which (as long
as you have them aligned properly) allow you to shoot without having to look

through the viewfinder. This is how I was able to catch the Blue Angels
crossing directly in line with my lens, which I don't think the other guys
were able to do. Seeing a full view makes long telephoto shooting of action

scenes a HELL of a lot easier, since you can see what'll be in the frame
before it gets there.

(note: that's a kinda big crop, since they weren't that close to us when
doing this maneuver.)
