Rob,
Here is a second hand opinion, as I would buy the lens, but have not found it
yet.
The reputation is that this lens is excellent, better than the FA70-210/4-5.6
AF zoom. It is reputed to have an asymmetric element which shows extra care
in it's design and execution. This may also accounted for the superior
reputation the lens has. It is the most desirable lens in this zoom range.
I own the FA70-210 and it is a fine lens, better than it looks/feels. The F
lenses are more solidly built than the FA lenses (the FA70-210 wobbles, but
takes good pictures!). The focus ring of the F lenses are small and less
convenient to use in manual mode on a camera like the MX. The operations
with autofocus should be excellent. My F lenses work just fine on the PZ-1.
My only caution is to pay attention to what you buy. There are Takumar
versions of the F 70-200/4-5.6 AF zoom. These lenses are inferior, and older
design, and without SMC coatings. They look very similar to the
F70-210/4-5.6 so watch out!
Regards, Bob S.
