According to the manual, downloaded today, it requires either an
AF-360FGZ or AF-540FGZ (a combination of two of either or one of each)
to effect wireless P-TTL operation. One flash must be attached to the
camera hot shoe. The pop-up flash would not be involved. 
If it turns out that the article is right, I'd be glad.
The Pop Photo article, I gather, has it wrong.
