A benefit of capturing RAW into DNG format rather PEF format is that,
if the DNG is properly formed, you can use any RAW converter which is
capable of reading DNGs properly rather than having to wait for RAW
conversion utilities to be updated in order to read the K10D's PEF
files.

This excludes Apple's Aperture and iPhoto at the present time, since
they do not implement the full DNG specification and can only read
DNGs produced by cameras that they already understand the native RAW
format for. But, for example, it means that Adobe Camera Raw and DNG
Converter should be able to process K10D RAW files immediately
without waiting for an update. As can Silkypix, RAW Developer, and
other DNG sensible RAW converters.
