Shel, The only addition is a set of colour codes on the mount that the camera reads to identify the lens. It pretty much only affects Leica's automatic vignetting compensation feature. The lenses retain all exposure functions on the M8 without it. Essentially you're paying to have a sticker added in the right spot.
