Amita,
Before there was eBay, there were the camera swap meets. I would look
forward to them in hopes of finding SMC Takumar lenses that I wanted to
accumulate for my ES cameras. I would dicker with some of the sellers and
sometimes got a good deal. The best part was near the close of the swap
meet when some dealers would drastically drop some prices because they
didn't want to pack them up and take them home.
With eBay, I can find lots of items that I never saw at shows. I enjoy
bidding on some things, but really prefer going to the shows and getting a
chance to handle some equipment that you can't do on web auctions. Plus,
you don't have to pay for shipping.
Out here on the western side of the Cascade Mountains in the Pacific
Northwest, I look forward to two camera swap meets, one in November near
Portland, Oregon, and the other in late April in Puyallup, Washington.
