No, it's certainly not exclusive to Epson.  I've done informal fade  
testing of HP, Canon and Epson prints for years.  Before pigment inks  
came along, they all faded badly in a relatively short time.   
Surprisingly the prints fade if stored in the dark, too, but it takes  
longer.
