And I'm beginning to believe that we can thank the writers of
Sendmail for the neat little change that strips out the high
bits in the body of the messages, thus preventing folks from
using high ASCII characters in the body of their e-mail. I
guess they just got tired of begging folks to quit using high
ASCII characters in their messages and decided to do something
about it. I'm fairly sure they had to exempt the high ASCII in
the mail headers because they would have eliminated e-mail from
several countries whose alphabets use letters in the high ASCII
range.

There are still computers used in the world that don't know what
to do with high ASCII characters.
