Hi all,

I recently bought a K100D (my first Pentax!) and the DA 21mm lens, and
have taken some pictures with them, some of which are here:

(About 2MB, so if on a dial-up, try just
http://www.mabot.com/photo/pentax/IMGP0234-800.jpg first.)

Am enjoying it greatly so far, although have much to learn... feel
like I'm learning to expose all over again, this time with matrix
metering + raw + lightroom, instead of center-weighted + slides. It's
all very confusing, so many variables. I find the defaults too bright,
mostly, which I could correct with exposure compensation in camera, or
by any of four methods later...

I seem to be able to handhold much lower speeds than I'm used to, but
when I try to test SR on vs off the difference isn't all that
striking. (I wondered for a bit whether the switch was broken!) Some
the lack of shake is probably from having a smaller, lighter mirror
mechanism, I'm used to a Nikon F3. Perhaps the SR is also designed
more for longer lenses (higher frequencies).

I was a little disappointed at how big the camera was when I got it,
somehow I'd imagined it being quite a bit thinner. (I think there's
something like 20mm of mechanism and screen behind the plane.) But
still pretty small with the 21, significantly smaller than with the
kit lens.

I have corrected distortion in many of these pictures, so don't assume
the 21 is dead straight. But am now fairly happy I'll be able to
correct it as needed. It would be nice to have this automated somehow,
PTLens's promised Lightroom plug-in might make me very happy.

Now if only the 43mm was in stock somewhere...

Cheers,
Michael
