My father wrote two books that were accepted and published, unsolicited, by McGraw Hill. But those were technical books and at the time there was nothing else on that subject. I don't know a lot about it, but I think getting a book published when one is not an already established fiction writer is very tough. I have read though, that persistence is the key. No matter how many rejection slips you get, keep sending it off again and again and again. Nothing will take away your sense of accomplishment, though. Good luck!
