Sounds like most people use the hoods to protect the lens, which begs
the question: do you use hoods on *all* your lenses? I currently only
have hoods on my DA18-55, and DA50-200. I don't have hoods for the
primes.

I didn't use to. Now I do. Went out of my way to buy a hood for a lens that
didn't have one a few months ago. Well, part of it is I am using Canon which
flares more than Pentax.

The other part is, I've read on list enough now about how some lenses have
been "saved" when they were dropped by the hoods, i.e. the hood protected the
glass. Maybe that won't work with cheaper and/or newer plastic lenses, but it
sounds good to me.

Not that I ever plan on dropping a camera or a lens.
