It's called "telephoto stack-up".  Watch for it in the movies.
When you use a long lens, the distance between objets farther
away appears to be shorter than the distance between closer
objects. The background objects look larger than your mind tells
you that they should be.

Shooting a night scene of a house with the moon above it using a
long telephoto lens will give you a picture of the house with a
huge moon over it.  The moon, being more distant, is "magnified"
more than the house.
