I can do both colour and b&w in my darkroom. I don't do colour
anymore though. Off hand I don't recall what I spent, but all of
my major peices of equipment were purchased used. My 4x5
enlarger is about 40 years old, with a modern cold light head
mounted. My colour enlarger is a Beseler 23C, which I think was
built around 1980 oe so.
Colour has gotten very difficult for the home enthusiast to do.
If you want to print from negative, you are pretty much stuck
buying a didicated paper processor. RA-4 uses a 45 second
develpment time, which is very difficult to time accurately
enough for a rotary tube processor. The time can be extended by
dropping the temperature, but at some point the colour will
cross over, which sort of ruins the picture.
Ilfochrome is relatively available if you want to print from
slides, but is quite expensive. I have never met an Ilfochrome
that I liked, but others swear by it. It is the least archival
of display materials when on display, approaching the inkjet
print for image permanence.
Ok, not that bad, but not great.....
Type R prints from slides are better for image permanence when
on display, but I don't think as easy to produce.

FWIW, I really think the home computer is a better colour
darkroom than a home colour darkroom.
I still prefer traditional b&w done in trays in a darkroom.
I know there are several newsgroups out there dedicated to this
sort of thing, I haven't bothered to dig them up though.
