Just a few quick shots to see if the camera works.

These were shot in the DNG format. Conversion was done by Adobe
Camera Raw with everything set to Auto. No cropping, sharpening etc.
All of these samples were shot with the DA 16-45.

Just a side note - a few days ago there was discussion on file size of
PEF vs. DNG. With either, the camera reads out 123 remaining shots
on an empty 2GB memory card. At this point I haven't run across a
menu setting to for any compression of raw files. Not saying there
isn't one, just that I haven't found it yet.

The autofocus seems either faster or more decisive. Maybe both. At
any rate it gives the impression of being faster than the D.

I enjoyed (and will continue to enjoy) using the istD. This camera is
a major step up from the D. It's not just a slightly faster version
with more pixels.

It would probably be a mistake to judge "how this camera works" and
the goodness or badness of those workings without actually using one
for a while.

This camera offers a well thought out feature set. Many of these
features we haven't seen before and will likely change the way some of
us work. I, for one, need to think through the scenarios where the Sv
and TAv modes will be useful.

The ability to set the camera to work within a ISO range, instead of a
single ISO setting seems so obvious once you use it.

After a quick run-through the manual with camera in hand, the controls
seem to fall into somewhat expected places. Nothing seems buried or
convoluted. I'm looking forward to giving this camera a shakedown
over the next few weeks.

See you later, gs
