The Photo Browser/Photo Lab version available for download is v 3.02. As far as I know v 3.02 Photo Browser will convert Pentax PEF files to DNG (uncompressed) but v 3.02 Photo Lab can't read either compressed or uncompressed DNGs.
I wonder if the software supplied with the K10D is a newer version that can read DNG?
