These show exactly the problem: I've seen quotes supposedly from  
Pentax directly that went from one rating to another. External  
sources vary even more widely.

So I personally would stick with the manufacturers' flash units, a  
low voltage non-dedicated (10V or less). Or with a Wein Safe Sync.  
Better safe than sorry.
