No, the camera fires a preflash and reads that via the main metering cell after 
stopping down the lens but before flipping up the mirror and uses that to 
determine power settings for the final flash. There is no exposure control of 
the flash during exposure with P-TTL on digital (there may be with film P-TTL, 
I'm not sure).
