I turn the readout off to eliminate distractions when it annoys me.  
The mileage histogram is not distracting, most of the time. The  
energy flow diagram is distracting, but occasionally something I  
watch to understand the battery power management cycles.

Utter nonsense. The traffic light sensors on such corners in  
California are not heat triggered, they're triggered by ferrous metals.
