My only advise is cram in as much RAM as you can. I'm running Windows XP x64 with 1Gb of RAM which at times isn't anywhere near enough.
The only compatibility problems I've had are with a games copy protection feature & my Epson 3200 scanner which doesn't have (and never will) 64 bit drivers.
