A few years ago, the planning committee (my wife) decided that she wanted to renovate the house. With that in mind, she took her ideas to the ways and means committee (me), and the Adventures in Home Renovations project became a reality. You may remember pictures of a little bungalow with no roof becoming a two story house. This project taught me many new skills, and honed several old skills. I was supposed to be assisting a carpenter to renovate my house, but he bailed on me shortly after the place got closed in. I ended up finishing the job myself. You may have noted that I no longer suffer fools, dealing with the moron I hired has a lot to do with this. This past spring, I was asked if I would be interested in applying my renovation skills to another project. I decided that this would be a better idea than spending another summer working in what had become an unacceptable workplace, and so I left Wal-Mart and set myself up as a general contractor. In the meantime, the owner of the studio that I use from time to time, and help out at when I can finally decided that he had to either join the digital era or put his university education to good use. He decided on the former, dismantled his custom darkroom and installed a Noritsu digital printer, a machine which I had passing familiarity with, as it is almost identical to the one I ran at Wal-Mart. Kim (the stusio owner) discovered that this new digital technology isn't quite his daddy's Oldsmobile, and so asked me for help with the set up and ongoing operation of the equipment. And this is how I find myself back in the photofinishing game, and why I am trying to figure out if a 64 bit operating system will give me faster throughput times for building school picture packages.
