David, I checked mine, it does the same. I think that the stabilization mechanism is always on, and the switch only tells the processor to apply it to the processed image. This makes, in my opinion, sense because you will need less circuits to take care off. So for me is normal. What you hear is the noise reduction system at works. Just feel the sound increasing when you move the camera around while the picture is been taken.
