I picked up my K10D kit from the UPS depot today, and ran a few test shots (after charging up the battery.) I've only taken about 20 shots - I plan to give it a thorough workout in the storm tomorrow and hope to get many shots.
But - here's shot 14 and 15, a couple of dark characters: http://www.markcassino.com/temp/pdml/IMGP0014.jpg http://www.markcassino.com/temp/pdml/IMGP0015.jpg Both were taken with the DA 18-55 lens and an AF360FGT flash, on camera with the built in bounce card up. Light was a mix of tungsten and flash. I touched up the white balance a tad when opening the files. FWIW - the DNG RAW files worked fine, but the Adobe CS2 auto settings were particularly horrid when I first opened the files. Worse than usual (compared to the *ist-D PEF files.) But that's Adobe's problem - with far more minor tweaks than Camera Raw mad ein manual mode, these came out just fine IMO. Obsevations: 1. Shades of of the Pz-1p! Side by side the two cameras are very close in size, weight, and feel. The controls (and the K10D has a lot more of them) are laid out better in the digital camera. 2. The AF is very good. Before putting on the flash with the AF assist the camera was able to quickly and accurately focus on the black cats. That's something that my Mz-S and *ist-D have a really have a hard time with - a black cat in low light can be a bear for focus on. 3. If you know the *ist-D, you know the basics of this camera. I was up and running in 5 minutes, with nary a glance at the manual. 4. Shake reduction looks good - I got a reasonably sharp hand held shot at 1/8th of a second and the zoom set to 40mm. I had no problem with using it with the A* 200 f4 macro - once I flipped on SR I was prompted for the focal length and entered it and it seemed to work fine. 5. I can just barely flip around the tripod mount on the A* 200 lens but it just about touches the front of the flash housing. I'll need to re-work my home build macro flash brackets before spring, since they won't work (hit the camera body.) 6. It's a real joy to have a "normal" zoom again - I was using the FA 20-35 f4 as my standard lens, and it was too short on the long end and too long on the short end. Verdict is still out on the 18-55, but it certainly was worth the bump in price between the body only and the body + lens kit. realy looking forward to getting out and giving this a good test tomorrow! - MCC -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mark Cassino Photography Kalamazoo www.markcassino.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
