You don't have to set anything special.

I just did the same thing you did:

.DNG: counter reads 121
.PEF: counter reads 122

I think the difference in files size is close enough that the cameras
guesstimate of capacity doesn't change much.

BTW the .PEF files are definitely smaller. I shot the same scene just now

.DNG: 16.1MB
.PEF: 12.6 MB
