I generally only take what will fit in my small Lowepro bag for
recreational shooting or vacation trips. However, I like having a kit
that includes everything for important location shoots. I also like
being able to carry most of my equipment down to my studio (which is
in the basement of my house) in one case. Plus, the Pelican is very
protective of gear. It's airtight, and I have a number of bags of
anti-dessicant packed in with the gear. It can absorb a lot of shock
without causing damage to the gear. I used to be able to carry it on
planes. It will fit in the overhead, although just barely. I haven't
taken it on a plane lately, so I'm not sure that they would allow
that today. However, I wouldn't be afraid to check it. I have those
travel combination locks on it.
