Actually no I haven't been shooting sport for more than a year or so but in the case of motocross. I got some useful tips from one of the regular race marshalls. Like which bits of the track you get the really high air etc. Where to be close to the action and safe at the same time. (relatively speaking) Despite being a small and relatively low budget championship they are very well organised. From a safety point of view the marshalls really looked out for us photographers and made sure we knew it if we got ourselves into dangerous spots.
The motocross championship also benefitted fromRed Bull sponsorship and photographers participating in the competition had official permission to shoot. One nice thing we experienced is that in most cases the organisers and participants of the various events (not just motocross) were chuffed to see a load of photographers taking interest in their events especially when they started to realise that most of the photographers were there on a volontary and non commercial basis.
