off the surface of the earth by surprise bomb attacks?

Yes. Of course.

absurd, that you can hardly expect to be taken seriously.)

It's necessary for deterrence.

terror bombing of civilians, in order to try to force Japan to surrender.

Bullpucky! Hiroshima and Nagasaki were warned for days before the bombs
came. The citizens were told in their own language they should evacuate the
cities. (My father has one of these leaflets.) The warnings were via
leaflets dropped from US bombers over the cities. The fact that they were
warned in this manner was proof we could fly over their cities with our
bombers. This was done because loss of life was unnecessary. Sadly, no one
evacuated as warned. The cities were bombed for two reasons: They were
munitions producing centers and the demonstrations were intended to show
overwhelming power in order to try to force Japan to surrender. Note of
fact: More people died in the conventional fire bombing of Tokyo than in
Hiroshima and Nagasaki combined, including after effects.

weather conditions allowed for it.

So do I.

Bullpucky! This sort of rant makes you seem uneducated.
