With the m42 lenses the entry screen for focal length comes up automatically
when you turn on the camera after mounting the lens - apparently the K10D
also senses lack of any connection - this is with the Pentax M42 adaptor -
NOT the wide flanged one that mucks up the infinity setting.

The camera also verifies focus and gives the suggested exposure for the
aperture as set on the lens - M setting enables adjustment of the exposure
as needed

With the M lens the aperture is NOT communicated to the camera but in M mode
you can determine the exposure at any selected aperture by using the green
button as the stop down on exposure still works - this was the only way I
have found to access the metering :)

With the M lens you also need to set the focus to Manual as the other modes
lock unless focus confirmation is triggered - useless at infinity focus when
the focus point is on a featureless sky. This was not needed with the M42
lens.

The lock unless focus confirmed is handy for quick and dirty Macro images -
just hold the button down and slowly move to get focus and the camera will
fire when focus is confirmed :)

Both lens types require that 'Using Aperture Ring' in screen 6/6 of the
'Custom Settings' menu is set to 'permitted'.

All lenses. But A and older lenses require you to enter the focal length
(With K mount lenses the selection screen comes up automatically, but
you need to menu-dive for M42 lenses as they won't cover the contacts
and thus indicate their existence to the body).
