Only supposition, but from logical inference. The *ist-D was unavailable from any source for months maybe even as long as a year. Even B&H had removed it from their web site a while back. Now suddenly they are available, at bargain prices. It doesn't take much brain power to realize that Pentax has most probably offered them to retailers at a huge discount before they're stuck with the lot of them.
