I am also looking at the latest beta of Lightroom on a PC. I saw the excessive time that Lightroom needs to import files but I think the issue might be centered on the type of files it is trying to import. I also ran into an interesting problem with the Pentax software. I have about 80 PEF files from the K10D. Half of them were taken with the camera set to sRGB color space and the second half were with Adobe color space. I did a batch conversion to DNG from the Pentax browser. It took about 5-8 mins to complete the conversion on my 1.6GHz Pentium M notebook. They all were recognized in Browser. I then fired up Lightroom and tried to import the DNG files. I had been playing with Lightroom for about an hour with imported PEF files from the *istD so this was the second import process I tried. The *ist D PEF import was very fast. Maybe 3-5 mins for about 125 files. The import of the 80 DNG files from the K10D (generated with the Pentax Lab), took almost 30 mins. When it finished only the first 25 files were shown. About 15 files in sRGB did not import nor did any of the Adobe color space DNGs. I tried to import just one converted DNG file that was produced in Abobe color space and Lightroom indicated that the file is in an unsupported color space. Lightroom could not read the sRGB DNGs files that failed on the original batch import when I tried just a single file. It behaved like the file was an unsupported file (like the PEF files from the K10D). At this point I opened Pentax browser and reconverted just one PEF file that was in Adobe color space. Lightroom now has no problem importing the file The same thing happened when I tried just converting one of the files taken in sRGB color space and was not originally recognized. So there is something weird going on here. I suspect the batch DNG conversion from the Pentax software but who really knows. Anyone else see this kind of problem? I am coming to the conclusion that avoiding the Pentax software it the best choice. I have had Lab crash pretty regularly and now these conversion problems. I would like to save room on SD cards by taking compressed PEF files instead of DNG files, but right now it looks like (for me) DNG files are the only reliable way of getting raw output from the K10D.
