While there may be many such individuals, they cannot act on the scale
of this and some other terrorist operations without a lot of support,
financial and strategic planning. This attack was not a
spur-of-the-moment thing, with a nut or a small group of nuts pulling
guns out and shooting people at random. It was in gestation for a long
period, years it seems. It was very expensive, entailing supporting
living and travel expenses for a large number of people for that period,
as well as flying lessons for some of them. And it probably required
covert political support from some nation as well as the financial
support that came from somewhere.
Yes, it is not appropriate to indiscriminately attack the homelands of
the individuals. But it is necessary to attack those individuals,
organizations and governments that sponsored and/or supported them. If
the heads of the organizations are cut off, the support will not be
available to make it possible for the foot soldiers to mount such
attacks. If it turns out to be Taliban, Taliban leaders must be held
accountable, not the people of Afghanistan who are prisoners themselves.
Same if it turns out to be Iraq, etc. But the heads of the
organizations sponsoring and supporting these operations must be dealt
with or we will see more of this kind of thing. Not just in America, but
anywhere where governments follow policies not approved of by the thugs.
