I dont know where you live, but I already stated that its worth getting a HDTV even without **any** true HD programming IMHO, just for the vast picture quality improvement of DVDS. There are many thousands and thousands of great DVDS available, the format is so popular that it will be here for many more years, and they dont look anywhere nearly as good on old analog 4x3 sets due lossy conversions to letterboxing on non 16x9 screens, lack of component or Digital interfaces on the non hd sets, and lack of progressive scanning on non hd sets. These three things all combine to give you a DVD image on HD set that is far beyond what you can get on an old analog 4x3 non progressively scanned screen. Yes, HD is even better, (only on resolution though, DVD has all the other great attributes of HD, HD is basically just sharper) but state of the art DVD imaging is really really good too compared to analog display with old connections, so much so that like I said, its worth it just for that, and when you are able to get true HD signals then thats like icing on the cake. I dont know why you lost interest in the visual arts like film, but it will be waiting for you when you do come back fortunately. jco

Last time I looked it was surprisingly difficult to find decent HD kit here anyway (most big screens here have shockingly low resolution; you'd be lucky to even get 720p). There was once a time when I'd have been all over this stuff, but I have different tastes now and would rather be outdoors or working on some project (yeah I'm having an early-mid-life-crisis). - Dave -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
