A bit yes, I don't like the shape and size either,
so I replaced it with a screw-in metal hood.

Mine does that once in a while too, mainly in low light.
Wish it would have a focus-limitter (like the FA).

I think it is a bit better on the K10D but have
not used it enough to be sure.

No, seems to be typical for this lens, allthough there
might be some sample variation.

That said, whenever I use a macro with a tripod, 
I use manual focusing anyway (or use the A* 200mm :-)

For bug-hunting the AF is nice though ...
