Its not an attitude, its reality.  Its a third world country, they dont 
have enough jobs, so they resort to selling drugs to willing druggies in 
the US, or crossing the border to feed their families, or kidnapping fat 
Americans with fat wallets.  It happens every day, not like every so 
often.  The country has changed, believe me, I used to visit all the 
time.  If you know exactly where you are going, like a village where you 
have relatives, then its not usually a problem.  But if you go around 
taking street pictures in a moderate sized town not too far from the 
border with an expensive camera (they are all expensive in their eyes), 
you raise your chances considerably of being a victim.  But you can 
choose to imagine its like old Mexico and traipse right in, be my guest.
