OK - here's what I posted in November.

I'll warn you ahead of time, this is one of those posts that contains
data, but probably no information.

I shot two more or less identical images with the K10D.
Image one was PEF. Image two was shot with in-camera DNG.

I converted image 1 from PEF to DNG with the Pentax software, then
compressed the DNG with the Adobe DNG Converter.

Here are the file sizes -

Image_1.pef 10,860 KB (original file)
Image_1.dng 21,504 KB (after conversion with Pentax software)
Image_1.dng 9,403 KB (after compression with Adobe DNG converter)

I compressed image 2 with the Adobe DNG converter.

Image_2.dng 16,460 KB (original file)
Image_2.dng 9,579 KB (after compression with Adobe DNG converter)

So, given this incredibly tiny sample of data, and the information in
another post that mentions DNGs flow through the buffer faster than
PEFs, I'll probably shoot DNG in the camera and buy a couple extra
memory cards if I feel capacity is an issue.

As a side issue, I spent about a half an hour, this morning,
installing the new Pentax software and updating Photoshop and ACR.

If you're into metadata, Pentax and adobe display different items.

The Pentax Browser reads identical data from from PEFs and
uncompressed DNGs. It didn't read any of the EXIF data from the
compressed DNGs.

Adobe Bridge reads a subset of the data from uncompressed and
compressed DNGS. At this point it doesn't open the PEFs at all.

I'm also going to admit that I don't know if either program can be
configured to display more data. If someone does know, please chime
in.

There are a couple of items in the list that I may not be paired properly.

See you later, gs
