Most of my pano's are in the 3 -6 shot range also, here's a 4 shot example:

Pano head used

And an 18 frame 360 degree one made by just rotating the tripods head
(before I had the pano head):

The second example required more of my time manually selecting control
points in the covered observation platform area because of parallax
errors, whereas the first example was aligned automatically

With the software out now you can make almost any sequence stitch
together. Where you see the benefits of the pano head, is in the
reduced amount of time spent in front of the computer having to
manually massage the pictures.
