Full agreement - I feel it's mainly a sick preconfiguration of one major tool that came into the email market, long after good standards had been established. Outlook lacks proper threading and replying mechanisms - but it became a very common tool by companys' decisions and preinstallation. > Nothing ticks me off more than someone inserting their comment inline/ in > between a previous post. > If ones reply is top quote all the time, why bother quoting at all? Full quotes are a waste of bandwith and storage media. They disturb searching (by hits in the quoted message) - it's just useless for a dissussion, while it's a need for forwards to others. > Bottom quoting also forces one to take a look at how long the thread is ... > some lists INSIST that the threads be trimmed so one doesn't have to wade > thru 3,000 lines to read "I agree" or "Me too". A good rule of thumb is to write at least two lines per quoted line. Some newsservers are configured to refuse messages that contain more quoted than composed text. > It also shows an arrogance to to not care how long the thread is when > top-quoting. But many people care little about problems of others. If many colleages do it their way, and it's the way the tool is preconfigured, it can't be wrong!? I guess people care in other grous for some reasons: One of the lists I'm subscribed to is for tandem cycling, with blind members. I guess that visually handicapped people are very rare here. The other group is limited by hard- and software. As long as your old computer (or palm top / cellular, other limited modern toys) is used, any improvement in efficiency by intelligence and care is welcome. > That's my 2-cents.... hope it helps HTH Martin - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
