I had actually done this when I was fooling around being stupid. Crossed 
polarised 2 filters
and took a picture looking directly at the sun in late afternoon.
Looked ok and actually won a prize at the local show.

Took this with K100D, straight from camera no size crop etc. Apologise for size 
of it in advance.
Don't have scanner so is best I could do despite dust flecks and stored in a 
box with several 100 others.
