When I first got my istD, the only RAW converter I had was the much 
pilloried Pentax software, which didn't look so good on screen, but looked 
fine in print.
The screen image is something like a 5x magnification (or more) of the 
print, so a lot of what we see as problems tend to go away when the print is 
made.
