Thibouille, I have the same setup, so I'll follow along here.

This is what I get, also.  However, if I select A mode (or M mode) on
the flash when I'm in Manual mode, then I switch to Av (or any other
mode, it switches back to P-TTL.  It seems as though this is normal
behaviour.  My batteries are dying, however (this is one thing I'm
happy about with the K10D - no NIMH batteries!).

That seems unusual.

Yes, the half-button press forces the camera and the flash to
communicate, telling the flash that you are in a mode other than
Manual on the camera.

The only thing that I hate is NIMH batteries with the external flash.
I don't use it all that often, but i'm finding that if the batteries
aren't fully charged, the results are unpredictable.  I hate to use
non-rechargeables, but I just might buy a pack of Lithiums.  I guess I
could also buy a 15 minute charger for my NIMHs, but that's not cheap.
