this may be true or some "A" lenses, but in the M42 and K series' the
entire
LINEUP consistantly had the silky smooth precision manual focus, not
just a
few megabuck lenses. The problem is that there are "A"
series lenses with outstanding image quality that feel
like doodoo on the focus ring. This optical/mechanical
mismatch is what sucks and its not just a few bottom line
zooms, many of the "A" series meat and potato primes are like this too.

The A series aperture rings tend to be notchier than K/M lenses, but
focus
feel tends to be as good or better in the better A lenses that I have
used. Lenses like the A600/5.6, A85/1.4, the real primo lenses feel
every bit as
good as anything from the K era in all ways
Since the camera I am using now controls aperture from the body,
aperture
ring feel has gone from being no big deal to a total non issue.
