Hi Dave,

I'm now not really sure that mode images would shed more light. In the
context of aliasing sans polarizer the issue of the K10D body's
integrated anti-aliasing filter being a bit weak in order to foster
greater apparent sharpness could be part of the reason. Secondly it
could be a function of the Bayer RAW interpretor.

You may just have fluked the angle that caused the subject to alias
with the sensor. Or the polarizer which is a grating filter could be
creating some kind of interaction with the sensor/subject, again with
a bit of fluke WRT angles.

I think really you;d have to attempt to replicate the scenario and
create some test shots to really determine what was the cause.
Hopefully it was just fluke circumstances.
