Nice shots from the Seattle farmer's market.  They are all closed in Chicago.
Yes, it is not hard to shoot older lenses with the current Pentax digitals.
I know the batteries limited the number of pictures you took, but take more.
It's one of the joys of digital versus film.  Experiment, shots are free!

The K10D is a nice camera.  I've had one for a month and it's great.
But I wouldn't wait for it.  I used an *istDs for 18 months before the
K10D.  If cash is an issue, pick up a Ds ($300 on Ebay) and get going.
 It will take you 12 months to figure out how to get the most out of
digital and your computer/printer.  By then, you'll be ready for the
K10D and Andy can use the Ds.
