The focusing aid is what causes metering issues as the focusing aid  
has to be optically aligned on center to work, where the Pentax  
metering cells are NOT optically on center, particularly in spot  
pattern mode. In CW Averaging and Matrix mode, this is less of an  
issue. Also, the OptiBrite finish can cause some calibration drift,  
but that's an optional treatment too.

I tested my custom Katz Eye (no focusing aids, standard surface  
finish) with the *ist DS extensively and it produced no deviation  
from standard exposure calibration. (That body nearly always needs  
+0.3 to +0.7 EV compensation for best RAW exposure.
