Thanks for the comment, Mike. No problem sharing the technique - I'm 
actually working on a post for my blog that will describe it all in detail.

It's an extremely difficult and demanding undertaking, and requires the 
most professional and high tech gear. It can only be done under the most 
pristine and controlled  environment.  A picture is worth a thousand

OK - it's just a 50mm macro lens, on a bellows with some extension 
tubes. The snow flakes are caught on the glass plate which is put on the 
top of the coffee can. A flash in under the can, shining up through the 
crystal. Blue bits of plastic are on the coffee can lid (which is 
stuffed into the can a ways) to create the blue background. The biggest 
challenge is getting the bits of blue plastic, the diffuser (a.k.a. 
coffee can lid) and angle of the flash just right.

I'm using an *ist-D because it will do TTL flash without any lens 
contact info. The K10D, as far as I can tell, won't do TTL flash unless 
the lens is connected to the body with contacts in place.
