Hey Mark - I've spent hours out in the cold shooting snowflakes. I've had no porblem with the *ist-D and lithium batteries. If I'm goning to be around all day I will usually leave the camera setup in the un-heated garage. It's sat out there for 8-10 hours in mid 20's (F) with no battery problems or other problems. Same is true with the Mz-S. I do seal the camera in a ziplock bag (or two) before bringing it in.
