A couple of years ago at work they upgraded my group's PCs from 32 to 64Mb (Oracle apps is a dog). One guy's machine must have had an incompatibility of some sort with the new memory and started freezing up several times a day requiring a reboot every time. The helpdesk's response? "Have you tried rebooting?" > My work PC runs Win NT 4 with 128MB and crashes once or twice a year. I have an old 486 with Linux which serves as a general file/print server, web cache internet gateway and a little software development. It went down last Friday due to a power cut, after just two years eight months and three days continuous uptime. I'm not really disappointed though because now I can put in a 56k modem and some more hard disk space without feeling guilty :) > The most common software is going to be > the target of the most viruses no matter who makes it. There are some basic precautions you can take to limit their spread. Anything that auto-executes an attachment is bad news, and any system that gives any old software unrestricted access to system files is even worse. Cheers, - Dave David A. Mann, B.E.
