So far the built in diopter is good enough.  But my eyes aren't
getting better and I end up with a slightly stronger prescription
about every other year or so.  I've never seriously considered contact
lenses in the past.  Once my eyes are worse than the diopter can
correct for, I'll go that route.  <g>
