Cold isn't a problem but damp can be if it's "damp enough".  I doubt
your basement is "damp enough" unless you've built a mini rain forest
down there.  Thermal cycles are a problem.  You mention the wood stove
... does the basement stay in a narrow range of temperatures, or does
the temperature vary widely?  That's more likely to cause problems.
