I think you are not correct here. If you crop the image from a larger (in size, not in number of pixels!) sensor, you will get an image with smaller number of pixels compared to the one you get from the smaller sensor with a comparable total number of pixels. (A20 has a 10 MP sensor).
A20 has a 5.76 mm x 4.29 mm sensor. K10D has a 23.5 x 15.7 mm sensor. Thus, if I am not making a mistake in my estimate, the same area of the K10D sensor as that of the A20 sensor will have only ~ 10MP / 15 ~ 0.67 MP. I believe that with all other parameters equal, an image from a small 10MP sensor would have a better quality then an image interpolated from < 1MP cropped from a large 10MP DSLR sensor.
