James Both the 1.8/77mm and the 1.8/85mm are excellent - well, better than excellent, actually. If you are photographing children, choose the 77mm with AF.
BTW: The FA 1.4/50mm is an affardable and excellent alternative, I believe! You might consider this! I'm doing more portraits (mainly of my kids) lately and am also considering doing my first wedding this year, so a fast, short telephoto is something I'd love to get. The problem seems to be that finding a 77 ltd (let alone affording one) appears quite difficult. I gather that Pentax is not keeping up with demand. From what I've seen of the DA70 ltd, I'd prefer the 77, for that extra speed and its reputation. Are they as hard to find as my web searching leads me to believe? Another option may be an old 85 1.8, but they're few and far between and also quite expensive when they do turn up. Any suggestions?
